Don’t bother me now, I’m in a musical fog
of unknown dimensions, an alien force
overtaking my mind, sane thoughts crumple over,
dull murdered reason breathes its last
while treacherous tides lay siege
to reality.
I’m an emotional zombie caught in the flow
of a jazzy soufflé in a French cabaret
caught in the shadows of a spy fantasy
slipping away through Pandora’s Box
to a tropical beach under a midnight sun
and mariachi hips and trumpet passions until the blood
rises to sidewalk beats and twangy guitars where dismembered
senses leap to land in the sensual arms of Rachmaninoff’s Vocalise.
Don’t bother me now, I’m in a musical fog
and you won’t see me again
until my battery runs out.
Good news for Kathleen Battle fans: she’ll be back at the Met in the new season after more than two decades!
