“I’m sure that the little girl in that back seat was signing us,” Karl said.
“She was just waving. Bored, I guess,” Jane told her brother. She rolled her eyes.
“No, really. I think she was signaling for help! Maybe you should note the license number and call the police.”
Jane looked annoyed. “You’re overreacting! It’s your hypersensitive reflexes kicking in, hell and all that just around the corner!”
“Oh, and I suppose I should adopt your carpe diem attitude and be caught unprepared for disaster?” Karl asked. He kept his eyes on the VW ahead memorizing the license.
“Disaster or death? Because it’s one and the same to your type. So you dream up hell and God to save you from it ….”
“While you practice zen just for that odd occasion when death is just around the corner so that you can meditate away your fears that it’s not simply a crossing over into a peaceful trance ….. Hold on! Listen!”
Karl turned up the radio and the next minute had parked his car alongside the road, dialing up the police with details of the VW that was slowly disappearing down the country road.

Seems you and I had similar ideas about the photo prompt. You went in one direction and I took another. I loved both the tension in your ending and the metaphysical discussion between the two characters. Interesting read.

Ha! You’re absolutely right! The unpredictability of tales is so much a part of the fun and in this case we have the yin/yang of a prompt 🙂 Enjoyed your clever take, btw.

It seems there were a few of us who thought “possible kidnapping”! I love how even with our similar ideas, our stories still went in different ways 🙂
You did great with this prompt!

Thanks, Jade. I love seeing story lines converge or diverge! The variety is part of the surprise and fun for the writer/reader.
