In the granite of city streets
is lost the sound of hope;
nor on a plain or hillside steep
no echo’s heard of struggles deep
within a heart alone.
Runners run with ears stopped up
employees scuttle to be on top
machines move from stop to stop
shoppers shop until they drop
there’s no hearing here.
If by chance you’re one of those
who has real hope to spare,
I hope you’ll grant a morsel rare
to one who needs to hear
the truth of God’s free grace and love
where hope abounds for all.

For God He listens and you He sends
to the heart that pleads for hope
that yearns to hear a crumb of cheer
that hearing leaps in joy to know
of Him who sent His only Son
to bring His children home.
