In response to SandmanJazz’s 30 Day Film Challenge today, to wit, “a film that means a lot to you personally,” my choice is The Sound of Music, the chief reasons being, it’s the first movie I remember seeing as a child and the musical twice features my Dad’s favorite English song, “Edelweiss,” and I always think of him when I hear it.
It made such an impression on me personally that when I think of the whole theater experience, the vibrant voices and colors, the music, the excitement, and the sensation of life magnified and spread all around me on the big screen, it’s this one that comes first to mind.
After all these years, the movie still holds its own!
Sound of Music- one of my childhood favorites. My favorite song is Edelweiss.

Sound of Music is my favorite Rodgers and Hammerstein musical. In addition, the musical is my favorite musical found in the Golden Age of musicals.
My journey for musicals truly began when I saw Wicked on Broadway- when I was 12. But musicals like Sound of Music still played a role in my love for musicals

Fun thing about a musical — you can easily put yourself in it just by singing the songs (for me, that would be in the shower 😉)

By songs alone- you can easily put yourself in it. Once you know what a song is about- you can easily visualize the scene. The emotional capabilities found in musicals are incredible to discover
