Share Your World 8-24-2020

We’re into week three of SYW’s two-parter, with Share Your World meeting the world of Harry Potter. We’re answering Melanie’s muggle-themed queries alongside those of Roger, this time invoking The Prisoner of Azkaban, my favorite of the HP movies. Thus the random, compendium of gifs 😉.

Be sure to check out everyone’s answers and join in the fun!

The great Gary Oldman as the “Prisoner of Azkaban” Sirius Black: quite the mugshot, eh?!

Alors! Let us commence with Part 1 & the questions of wizardry. (And do pardon the occasional hiccups – hiccoughs, pour les anglaises – of French.)

Part 1

One of my favorite gifts that Harry Potter received came from the Weasley Twins; and was “Mrs. Mooney’s Marauder’s Map”. This magical document showed every classroom, hallway and secret corner in all of Hogwarts. It also showed you the location- by name- of every person in Hogwarts.

If you had such a magical map of your town, what would you use it for? If you would not use it, is there another person to whom you would gift it?

I’m not a cochon interested in other folks’ daily movements, but if for some reason someone in my family couldn’t be contacted in an emergency situation, it sure would come in handy and cause très beaucoup less anxiety. I would loan as needed, of course, especially in the interests of solving crime, tu comprends.

When was the last time you made a snowball? Were in a snowball fight? Some may find this très amusant but I was actually the object of a concerted (harmless) snowball attack by a few political fanatic innommables. On the lighter side, when my children were tiny little mites, there was nothing more amusing to mes enfants than pelting their Mummy with wet snow.

Many cultures set great value in each child of the family having godparents.

Did you have godparents? Are you a godparent yourself? Non, and Non.

You have found a secret tunnel under your house. Where does it go? A magical land where I can fly a hippogriff, c’est tout!

Part II: Muggle Questions (of a more philosophical bent this week)

Is intelligence or wisdom more useful?  To quote from the great book of wisdom, “‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom,
and to turn away from evil is understanding.” (Job 28:28).

How important is play in living a healthy and fulfilling life? Extremely important: All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

Is happiness just chemicals flowing through your brain or something more? Happiness is emotionally fleeting, and yes, there’s probably any amount of chemical stimulation involved though not entirely. On the other hand, joy is deep and lasting and, in some inexpressible way, divine and imbued with eternity.

GRATITUDE SECTION (Always optional)

Feel free to share some photos, an image, a meme, a story or incident or a poem that helps you feel grateful.

“Let All the Earth Give Thanks!” is a poem I wrote on this blog about four years ago that expresses my gratitude to God for all the wonderful gifts of creation that we enjoy freely because they are given freely. It’s real magic: all we have to do is open our eyes. No reservations, tickets or social cachet needed.

And as always, I’m grateful for fellow bloggers who share their good humor, their talents, their energies in making this world a place worth sharing, specifically this week, encouragement from fellow creative artists and writers. Sláinte! 🍻

  1. Thanks (merci beaucoup) Dora for Sharing Your World and some lovely bi-lingual skill. Je ne parle pas francais, except a few words. I love learning bits and pieces (don’t try a conversation with me though, it probably wouldn’t make a lot of sense), and today you taught me a new French word ” innommables”. Very nicely put! You have a lovely attitude and I’m sure you’re both wise AND intelligence, happy and joyful! Have a great week!

    1. Merci, chérie! My schoolgirl French comes in handy when getting into the Hogwarts school mentality. It hasn’t progressed that much more since then to be honest 😂 Thanks for the lovely compliments.

  2. I love the destination of your secret tunnel- I am not sure which magical place I would want to go- Maybe mine could be more of a ‘time travel tunnel’ — I love history!

Sorry, I got around late this week, but I guess “better late than never.” I am so glad you tried the Potter questions. Hope to see you next week.
