In November the sunlight
dapples over dead leaves
wind rustles memories free
storms sweep tombs, unearth bones
beleaguer dead valleys to awaken
an exiled Ezekiel’s breath:
“The end is not night
Sleep is not death
Your seed-borne husk betokens
Jerusalem’s dawn is nigh.”
For dVerse’s MTB this week, Frank asks us to write a Jisei (Japanese Death Poem) in either a haikai or haikai-esque form of ten lines or less. Click on Mr. Linky to join in!
Such powerful verse:
“storms sweep tombs, unearth bones
beleaguer dead valleys to awaken…”
I love your writing, it never fails to stun me with your creativity and imagery.

I love the setting of the November scene in the opening lines, Dora, especially ‘wind rustles memories free / storms sweep tombs, unearth bones’, the wrecking ball of the season, and then you remind us that all is not lost.

No, all is not lost. That was my aim in a nutshell. Thanks as always for your perceptive comments, Kim! 💝

Seems we’ve been exploring the theme of darkness/death since in October. I must take a break. Thanks, Kerfe.

We need a break from 2020 altogether.

Great imagery in this – the winter wind reminds and awakens and uncovers and corrects our fears.

This has a lovely flow to it, gentle but implacable, like the tide, like death too.
