Lisa at dVerse asks us to write a quadrille (poem of 44 words) using the word “way.” Here’s my drowsy offering as midnight creeps closer. Click on Mr. Linky to join in!

When sleep comes my way
darkness warm like mother’s milk
lulls my hungry wakeful eyes,
I sink at last in ocean light
to caverns deep where you await
a Prospero’s Ariel caught betwixt
reflections of the world above
and the mirrors of my mind.
Beautiful words!

Loved your delightful tautogram, even as it made me long for Wisteria Way. Waiting with wondrous wistfulness, you might say.

A delightful quadrille, Dora. I love the simile ‘darkness warm like mother’s milk’. The ocean metaphor is perfect for that feeling of drifting off to sleep.

I’m so glad you liked that simile. It pushed me to finish the quadrille just as I was tempted to give up. Thanks, Kim. 🙂

I like your Tempest allusions, bouncing back and forth like the ocean inside that deep cave.

So pleased you liked it, Jane. To be honest, I was feeling this one. Stayed up too late.

That magical drifting away is beautifully captured here. I like “mirrors of my mind” because I feel like that’s acknowledging the subconscious at play. 👏💯💖

Exactly, a submersion into our unconscious. I was going for that. 💝

I would love to fall asleep like this…. for me it’s more like being clubbed in the head and then waking up in a nightmare.

Oh no, Bjorn! But I wish I could say that all my entrances into the world of sleep were calming. They’re not.

Dora, I like your view of darkness being warm. You capture the mystical quality of the place between waking and the dream world very well.

Peaceful. It made wish it wasn’t the middle of the day so that I could read this and then drift off to sleep! Beautiful word pictures!
