Light Showers and Maple Leaves

For Cee’s FOTD challenge, an unexpected summer rain had me scurrying under this young maple tree and wondering, Where do trees go to hide from storms? Or is the canopy of the sky providence enough, frowning though it may be? From it God waters thirsty roots and showers drops of light to hang on parched leaves, and oh, how they glisten and shake with joy in the breeze!

Shenandoah Valley

Joseph at Lillie-Put began a daily Home Photo Challenge today and this beautiful misty fog that settled into a field in the Shenandoah Valley is my entry. This was taken outside the apartment where we used to live not so long ago. Do I miss the view now? Yes, I do! But it’s nice to have memories like this. (See my poem on the “Shenandoah Mist”)

“Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.”

Nature Abstracted

Sometimes you turn away your gaze for a moment
the light too strong for your eyes
then look back and the world’s changed
into something sharper, more beautiful

but sometimes into something indecipherable
that doesn’t belong in this time, this place
but to a sentient landscape
to a prehistoric race
who knew what they saw
and understanding,
took flight.

Nature’s Cold Designs

A good snowstorm was all it took to make clear nature’s cold designs. We were snug and warm indoors until it came time to shovel out from under all the snow.

And then to be greeted by a still to be cleared patio with inviting “snow seats,” perfectly designed by mother nature for pillowy softness. Did I say inviting? Only if you wanted to “freeze your buns off.” Brr.
